Services
A) Prevention campaign (in New York and other targeted cities) led by native Arab speaking counselors and volunteer peer educators based in New York, who have access to any other areas, outside of New York, with large Arab American populations.
B) Personal and group counseling for persons in the affected communities, who are concerned about infection, or those who have a family member or close relation or friend, who is in a high risk group.
C) Counseling, through a help line, for at least 5% of the people for those reached by the outreach programs, who are worried or at risk.
D) Free access to educational materials for persons who live with HIV/AIDS themselves or families and friends of those who are at risk.
Intervention
Groups in poverty: The program targets the poorer populations in urban peripheries of the large metropolitan regions, populations of workers in settlements and rural areas and groups in extractive activities. It supports and develops activities for the training of peer educators, "information multipliers" in the prevention of STD/AIDS, in partnership with other CBOs and other entities of civil society.
Taxi Drivers and Street Vendors: The program supports activities and campaigns aiming to inform these professionals about STDs and AIDS. The interventions are carried out by groups of professionals or volunteers that carry out their work at Delicatessen Shops , commercial stores and taxi terminals.
Confined Groups: The program promotes activities for prevention, diagnosis and patient care for STDs and AIDS, applied primarily in the state of NY, in partnership with the prison systems.
Women: The program supports prevention activities, aiming to turn back the present tendency of the epidemic, decreasing infection of HIV among women, supplying condoms, diagnosis, full patient care to women living with HIV/AIDS, and guaranteeing counseling and social support.
Mosques and churches: The program develops prevention activities through the training of religious leaders and assigned agents and advocates, aiming to promote the adoption of abstinence and provides educational reproductive health information.
Children, Adolescents and Young Adults: The program establishes prevention activities through the training of peer agents in schools, and through efforts directed against the use of drugs.
Men Who Have Sex With Men: The program carries out prevention activities in partnership with the only Arab organization in this field GLAS (Gay and Lesbian Arab Society), aiming to change unsafe behaviors, promoting safe sex practices and strengthening community initiatives for the training of peer agents. In addition to flyers at all Clubs and Cinemas where MSM are known to gather.
