How M.E.N.T.O.R.S. Helps People

What is M.E.N.T.O.R.S. New York?

M.E.N.T.O.R.S. stands for Middle East Natives, Testing, Orientation, and Referral Services. It is an Arab-American non profit organization, based in Manhattan, affiliated with RAINBO, a CBO (Community based organization) that has a long history of research and direct health services in New York.

In our programs, M.E.N.T.O.R.S. serve to increase HIV/AIDS awareness, with dedication to the promotion of sexuality education and other human rights aspects for the Middle Eastern community in New York.

M.E.N.T.O.R.S. was founded in 1998 in coordination with RAINBO. It was recognized by the authorities in New York as a CBO in January 2000.

M.E.N.T.O.R.S. have their project office in Manhattan. From this center, we conduct outreach programs in the five boroughs of New York. M.E.N.T.O.R.S. services use accurate information and are not intended to scare the population. Groups that are targeted are youths, other high risk groups (e. g. men who have sex with men, drug users), and people who have already tested HIV positive. We also serve to alleviate the physical and emotional suffering and pain experienced by both those with AIDS and their families, through its supportive counseling services.

M.E.N.T.O.R.S. have gained broad experience and built strong relationships with different sectors of the Arab community in New York through our HIV programs. The activities of M.E.N.T.O.R.S. have reached hundreds of people over the past year.

All counseling services are conducted on the basis of assured confidentiality and anonymity.
